Best Super Cheap Modifications?

I picked up a 98 Cherokee Limited about 6 months ago for an embarrassingly low price. The rear brakes were shot at the time, but it's currently running and driving nicely. I've added a pair of off road lights and good tires, and now I'm looking for something else to do to it. It's mainly a winter vehicle, but I'd like get into some light off-roading as well.

What are some of your favorite free/cheap modifications or additions?

hi-flow muffler. factory unit robs around 5 hp. no bull. it will be the single most worthwhile upgrade you can do for around 40-70$.

there's more...but start with that!

the exhaust has at least a couple holes in it (right before cat, etc), so I've got to patch it up somehow (jb weld?). New muffler at the same time would be a good idea. Summit Racing has some house-brand mufflers for ~$40. Any recommended mufflers?

I'm not sure what this refers to, or what it would do. Could you clarify?

look right infront of your air intake mouth and there is a peice of plastic infront held in by 3 screws. Take it out, it gets a tad better airflow

it's called a bugshield, behind left front headlight.

also drill some 2 or 3" air holes in bottom air filter box up front on the battery side.

this is a noticeable upgrade and is felt on the freeway above 45 mph.

DIY headlamp harness. Totally worth it, even with the stock sealed beams. I did mine a few years ago for around $60 grand total.

grab a cheap CB off craigslist and install it

Ive never been impressed with the stock back up lights, so i grabbed a $10 set of fog lights from wal-mart, and wired them into the reverse light circuit with a relay. reversing at night is much better now.

im sure ill think of more...

i'd make sure all your mechanical stuff is good, plugs wires, cap, rotor, filter, and that kind of stuff if its your daily in the winter you want it to run and get you where you need to go. if your getting into offroading make sure you have front and rear recovery points.

i got a summit muffler, clamps, and flexpipe for under $40. Definately feels a bit crisper and is barely louder.

ebays got a 2 inch rough country lift kit. shackles for rear and spacers for front. 89 bucks i think. buddy just got it for his jeep. ive seen ppl that mod their airbox to just block off hot air and put a cone filter in. hood vents are cheap. i just bought 2 deck drains for a boat. they're black plastic and im gonna add that above my afe cai to get cooler air. those were 5 a piece and should look b.a. after.
