belt problem?

i have a 2000 xj
stock 4.0
it used to be when it got wet the belt would slip a little
the voltage meter would go down the it would go back to normal 14volts
now that its cold here
it slips and i have to rev the engine to get it going
it stays ok at 14 then if i put the heater on after a couple of seconds it
slips and voltage goes down
i turn the heater off and the voltage goes up to 14 again.
is it the belt?
i took out the air conditioning fuse 2 years ago

or something else?

The belt could be simply loose, or it might need replacing (I like the Gatorbak). Of course, your alternator might also be on the way out.
