Battery gauge problem

My battery gauge randomly jumps from normal to all the way to 19 and my check gauges light comes on. It's a '97 and has no known electrical problems.

Your alternator is about to die. And while it holds on for dear life, it is killing your battery, which will need replacing soon.

I guess that explains the pulsing I've been getting in the lights while driving at night. Any suggestions on where to buy a new alternator? I have two other vehicles so I don't need it right away.

I have 3 suggestions, NOT Autozone. NOT Pep boys and NOT any other cheapo chain auto parts store. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more cash for a quality replacement. Not sure what is available to you down there in the bayou but I think you get my drift. Might also be a good time to do the higher amp alternator swap.

I agree, alternator, battery, or wiring issues. Also, cheap crappy "Lifetime Warranty" parts are often out of specification, or even failed, right out of the box. Many times they have a short service life before they fail. Always buy top quality replacement parts and genuine Jeep sensors. Numerous threads detail long and frustrating searches for a "problem" that ended up being cured with quality repair parts.

Cheap parts are cheap for a reason.
