basic questions about 97

what is the aw4?

Are 1997 with manual tranny and 8.25 common?

If it has ABS does that mean that it will not have the 8.25?

thank you

the AW4 is the 4 speed AUTOMATIC tranny that was used 87-01.
the AX4 was a 4 speed manual tranny, but it was only used 84-86 with the cheap little engines.

If its a 97 with a stick, its probably the AX15 tranny, although some of the base models with the 4.0 used a 5 speed tranny made by New Venture (who makes the transfer cases)

If you have ABS, you defintly do not have the 8.25.

by the way, there is a sticky at the top of the cherokee forum that has all that information, as well as other stock specs of these things.
