Not as long as you row through the gears like you should.

wouldnt u have to skip from 1st to 3rd, since there is no 2nd gear selection?

Yeap, you're skipping 2nd gear. But, unless you are driving a lot on heavy traffic, won't do any damage. ..and knowing the shift points of the AW4, 3rd is usually engaged at very low speeds anyways

If you floor it and hold the pedal down, 3rd doesn't engage until you top 80.

Well, if you keep it in 1-2, it won't shift to 3rd at any speed - at least that's how it was on mine when I somehow managed to blow the +12V feed fuse of my TCU. ..and it shouldn't change from 1st (when 1-2 selected from the lever) with the TCU disconnected, because the tranny is mechanically forced to stay on 1st.

edit: of course, that's why one should use the lever to shift to 3rd from 1st if the TCU is broken/ disconnected.

If I floor it I grab 3rd around 55mph... Maybe some adjustment is needed.

Oh, you guys meant floor it AT 80mph. I thought you meant hold it down off the line.
