Aw4 transmission problems

I just put a new engine in my cherokee. When i pulled the old one out the torque a verter came out with it so i put it back in when i put in the new engine. After i re-installed the engine i also replqaced the filter in the tranny. Before i replaced the engine the transmission worked fine and now it wont even go into gear. Any ideas as to what could be wrong.

Sounds to me like the T/C isnt locked into the pump in the front of the trans properly. In order to fix this and the easiest way to fix it is, drop the trans and disconnect the T/C from the Flex disk on the engine. Then with the trans and T/C seperated from each other push the T/C onto the input shaft of the tranny and turn it, you should feel the T/C go into the tranny more and there should be a prositive clunking sound. Now when you spin the T/C it should take more effort because it is properly engauged with the tranny pump.

I hope that helps and i didnt confuse you.

Kyle

Look around at this page of the JeepForum http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/tech-faq-links-tsbs-89273/
and you will find AW4 tranny info.

The neutral safety switch may need adjusting.
