Average Transmission Rebuild/Fluid Change cost?

What are some average prices for a trans rebuild in your area? How about a fluid change?

Fluid/filter change $50 30min DIY, Rebuild, get AW4 from JY $200-300 and a day.

96 XJ 4.0 / 231 / 3.5" JY Lift/ 31" BFG /.....
93 VT1100 - Harley killer.
97 ZJ 4.0 / 242 / Stock

If it aint dirty, it aint a JEEP, it's just a SUV.

I don't trust myself to do a rebuild, but hey I have said that many times since I got my XJ about all sorts of stuff. Fluid change, maybe. I need some guides and i will decide once I read em through.

He wasnt saying do a rebuild. he was saying get a junkyard tranny and swap it in. Personally i wouldnt bother. To much work for a tranny that may not work. It may last another 5 years. Never know but im not willing to take that chance. Fluid and filter would run about $50 if you do it yourself. $100 to have a shop do it.

Does that price include R&R (removal and replacement) of the tranny in the vehicle, or is it just the pure rebuild?

Does that price include all new bushings in the trans? How about a new torque converter?

I assume the price includes all new seals, clutches, and bands, correct?

I the answer to all of the above is "YES", you got a SMOKING deal.

AZ-Jeff
I don't own an XJ any longer, but I still think they are the best of all the Jeep products ever made. My XJ was my favorite vehicle in my 50+ years of driving.
So...I stick around and give advice.
