Set up my LED switch to send power to a relay.
On relay - have the b/p wire going to pin 85, ground going to 86. ground going to 87 and hot going to 30
LED lights up, fan comes on, no CEL

I just did this mod on my 96 and it sets the CEL. So....If someone could elaborate on the relay setup that Apostle described a couple post up, I would appreciate it. One thing I don't understand for his configuration, do you cut the db/pk wire or just tap into it. If you cut it, what terminals on the relay do the now 2 db/pk wires go to on the relay?
Any help would be appreciated.

First off I apologize to Buckeye for stealing his diagram for a start
Here is Apostle's diagram.
This should be no different that a switch.
THIS should cure the CEL

Could it be done this way also to include a 3-way switch so that the fan can be turned off?

yes, would involve a bit more wire running, but is very doable.
That would be a good setup for water crossings, however if I have to cross water I shut the jeep off and let it cool a while, and usually wade the crossing to make sure I wont be surprised. Then I remove the fan relays and head across.

Holder350,
I agree about crossing the creek on foot to avoid surprises. Now you got me thinking on pulling the fuses/relay. That may be a better option. Kind of hard to forget and leave it off that way.

Can somebody tell me if I labeled the relay properly in this diagram? I'm lazy and more used to dealing with the number on a relay.

If you will give me a minute I will go out to my shop and get my sketch because I just completed this and I marked up my sketch just as you have but it is in my shop. Be back in a minute.

Here is how I did it. Another thing that is most likely different is if you have a three position switch, most of them will have the center position off instead of one of the end positions as I have indicated.
