Ok now I have a question. I asked my cousin because I couldn't find anything. Is it possible to get a manual trans on a 02 WJ (laredo)? I hate the auto feel of the car because the awful lags and it just shifts terrible... And is it around the same cost if I got it done myself?

this is some really great info.. My automatic transmission has finally crapped out and I'm planning on doing this swap very soon, I have a 1990 cherokee and I was wondering if there is any difference between the '89 and '90??

Loads of good info...

I just did this swap to my 91 XJ 4.0L

The donor was a 92 XJ 4.0L

I have ended up with two problems since the swap.

Problem 1

The speedo doesn't work. I changed the VSS from the old AW4 to the AX15 and no speedo.

Problem 2

When coming to a stop and down shifting into 2 the engine dies.

Any suggestions on the cause of the problem?

Replace the TPS with one from a stick. The ECU is looking for input from the TPS to downshift the AW-4 and is receiving it but has no tranny to send it to, thus the shutdown.

got the speedo working and the problem of the engine dying has stopped as well.

Got a question for y'all who've done this: I understand that the reverse lights come on when the Neutral Safety Switch tells them to. By bypassing the Neutral Safety Switch, how do you get reverse lights?
