I guess what I am asking is, if I am looking for parts to do a manual transmission swap into my 2000 Cherokee, will the AX-15 and other manual transmission parts from any '97-'01 work or should I be looking only for '00-'01 parts?

I have been browsing some transmission parts on ebay and some of the AX-15 listings say "will work for '89-'99" and I am wondering what if any differences there are between '99 and '00-'01?

I would appreciate some input if anyone knows. Thanks!
The '00-01' Cherokee should have an NV 3550 for the manual transmission. I'm not sure of the cross member for it. There is a difference between an XJ or MJ with an BA-10/5's cross member and one with an AX-15.

Yes but you'll have to remove the tail shaft extension and acquire t t-case with matching splines.

I'm sure the pilot bearing came with the clutch kit, mine had it...

I have a 5-Speed and all the necessary parts from a 1989 Cherokee. Is it possible to swap that transmission into my 1999 Cherokee Sport without running into a whole bunch of problems? My automatic is working fine at the moment, but I want to be prepared for the time of WHEN it goes out, I hate automatic transmissions...

If you have a 231 now, the splines may not match, but if you have the 89 231 also, the speed sensor and 4wd switch should swap over (I think). Same to be said if you have two 242's (I think). I don't know what will happen if you have two different t-cases...

But holy old thread! Loaded with good info, obviously, or it wouldn't keep coming back like this...

im doing virtually the same thing, 89 AX15 into my 98 XJ. as far as my research shows me, the 89 ax15 will match with my 98 np231. will i have to move my crossmember closer to the front of the vehicle and are there provisions for a neutral safety switch after the manual is swapped in or should i just leave it without one

Ummmmmmmmm.... automatics don't have master (or for that matter, slave) cylinders. Yup... there's your need for a new one!

my only question is, on the obd-II's do you run into problems with the ECM? I have read up on some other swaps such as a 3800 with a manual into a fiero (my other love) which requires some modification to the wiring to the ecm because AFAIK all 3800s were mated to automatic trannys and the ecm wouldnt work with the manual tranny in the fiero without making modifications to the wiring harness and doing crazy things like soldering in resistors and even a lightbulb in one of the wires (to serve as a load so the ecm thinks the tranny is shifting). granted, it's a GM and not a Jeep but, i figured that the OBDII Jeep ecm's may have some kind of transmission shift detection or something.
