ARB or Ox locker?
im gonna start a dana 44 build soon and i really like the idea of a selectable lockers (ARB air locker and Ox locker). im leaning more towards the Ox locker because i dont want to deal with the hassle of the air system with ARB air lockers but i like how its just a flick of a switch when you need it with the OX. Opinions between the two??

I went ARB 5 years ago when I was faced with a similar question. I've yet to have any air leak issues. Nor have I needed any sort of special service performed. I ultimately went with ARB because their customer service is among the best in the off-road industry. At the time OX was shutdown from a lawsuit, so there wasn't any ability to receive warranty parts. Of course that has changed by now, but I haven't heard a whole lot positive about their customer service. At the time of the 20 owners of OX/ARB that I polled, the ARB customer's were resoundingly happier than the OX owners.
Either product is going to be plenty stout and unlikely to be the weak link in your drivetrain. ARB has the air leak vulnerability, OX has suffered with cable activation issues. Pick your poison there. For a 3rd component to consider is the Yukon Zip Locker, which is Yukon's version of an air locker. If you have any specific questions that need answered, offer them up.

X2 on the ARB...
the only issues I've ever heard or seen were due to crappy installation FWIW. OX used to have issues with cables melting but again, that is due to installation issues most likely. Either is fine but I LOVE ARB products...great Customer Service ![]()

ARB FTW.
i went arb's with the yj due to them being a proven product. i never had a single ounce of trouble out of front or rear. only issues i have heard of are either the result of bad installs (locker and airlines), or people believing internet and advertising BS. i never needed the customer service myself, which is a good thing in its own. i personally would not buy from a company that gets bought and sold. if you are wheeling, you want the warranty you paid for. no ifs ands or butts. just my .02 of course. martin

i plan on doing everything myself and the ox with a cable sounds so much simpler than running airlines and a compressor and all that jazz.

I am in the exact same boat. Has anyone done an ARB install with the compressor, wiring and switches? I will have to get the lockers installed when I re-gear but how about the rest of it?

it is so easy, its an insult to be honest.
if you can install a stereo, you can do all the wiring and air lines for an arb. 'nuff said. martin

I know that OX now has an air locked version and an electric version of their locker, something to think about as well.

a considerable saving over arb? as much of a proven product as arb, along with excellent customer service? if the answer to either one is no, then why take the chance? yes i am an arb/old man emu supporter because they have both EARNED my respect and admiration having run both product lines. Hell i have even used t/max winches and compressors...never had an issue with one of their products. that is from experience, not a magazine article BTW. martin

yeah i agree with you on actual experience over the internet and magazines and stuff. Now when i built my XJ list I did make it from other peoples experiences and tried to mate that with what I wanted. I have heard of a friends friend have an ARB leak, but there are a LOT of people with the ARB and ahve no issues. Plus people have to realize that more people will complain about a product than compliment on it.

an air leak where?
2 thoughts here... the installer caught the o ring in the locker. the installer ran the air lines in a stupid place. neither one is down to the locker IMHO. i still would go arb all the way. if my jk rubi axles didnt already have the electric lockers installed, i would have arb's in there for sure. martin

you can mount the compressor inside, but i wouldn't want a compressor inside myself....
best bet is to install the compressor under the hood, and run a line for the air intake inside the cab. it is guaranteed fresh air that way i never had a problem with the arb filter under the hood, just seen a few like that and thought it was a good idea. martin

Auburn has a electric locker too, little cheaper than the ARB, but if I had the money I would def get the ARB. You will need to deflate and inflate your tires anyway..
300 for air tank and all that jazz..plus fill up occasionally and so forth or just pucker up and get the ARB and then you will have a compressor too.
