What are the symtoms of a loose chain?

Is a transfer case easy to open up and diagnose? Like check the chain and look for messed up bearings?

somewhat time consuming, but not too hard. If you're just popping open the case for an inspect you could probably do it in about 2-3 hours start to finish.
