My stock (mostly) xj has 30 inch tires. Take a look at http://www.azvjc.org/ go to members or gallery and look up my name Joel Molenaar. My xj is not lifted and doesn't have the up country option. I do have diconnects. The tires only rub when disconnected and fully flexed.

Hope this helps,

this is just to reply to david. 235/70R16 are 29" tires not 30". 30's will rub on 97 and newer on full turn and if u hit a hard bump offroad u could rip ur inner fender out. 235/75/15 will fit safely. thats the biggest unless u do a budget boost or hack ur fenders. happy motoin

Actually the bfg at 30x9.5 is 29.4x9.4 while the 235 70 r16 is 29.1x9.5, 3 tenths of an inch smaller in diamater 1 tenth wider. The 235 75 r16 is 29x 9.1 this is true for most tire manufactures, at least bfg and goodyear. Will that 7/16 of an inch or so make a differance, maybe. My jeep is not lifted and is not an upcountry I don't rub at full lock I do rub when disconnected and fully stuffed into the wheel well. The tire can still turn and is not tearing any thing up, where they rub is in the middle of the wheel well and a tiny bit on the flare. If you are not disconnected I would imagine that either size would fit with no rubbing at all. If you are disconnected that 7/16 could make a differance, but I don't know how much. It Doesn't matter much to me any more because I came across some coil spacers and shackles that will be alleviating the little bit of rubbing I have.

I hope this helps and doesn't cause confusion,

So I have a 93 sport and plan to put a set of Goodyear GSA tires on it. The actually measure 29.5 x 9.5. Any thoughts?

I think if you aren't disconnected they won't rub. If you are disconnected and the rub too much a budget lift or a 1/2 inch added to you bump stops will stop it.
