Another Slow Start ?

I've already tried searching for this, but I couldn't find anything that matched. I have an 88 with 333,000 miles on it and it takes forever to start. I've already checked to make sure that it is getting fuel, the pressures are right where they should be, and it's not the check valve. I am now thinking that it might be electrical in nature. I was really hoping that somebody else might have had this problem. Oh, and it's not just because the engine is worn out, because it runs great after it starts. thanks in advance for any help that you might be able to give.

When it finally starts does the idle surge high then drop?

When was the alst tuneup (wires, plugs, rotor, cap)?

Whats the compression ratio?

Yes it does surge to almost 2500 rpm, and the last tune up was about 1k miles ago, but it was doing this before the tune up. I haven't checked the compression yet. And, I only got this thing a few months ago, so I don't know if it was ever rebuilt, but, I don't think so.

Its kind of hard to say what exactly is wrong. I know mine had some Vacuum Leaks and had a hard start followd by a quick idle surge. PN# 4762592 53004838 and 53004868 most likely need to be replaced (the plastic lines become brittle and break over time. Also when changing the parts listed, clean the Valve Cover. There are 2 plates (forgot the name of them) that will get clogged with gunk over time. This in turn will effect driveabilty and can also be a reason for hardstart. The parts should run you no more than $120.00 I paid roughly 85.00 (used shop discount) for mine. This should cover it, you said you had fuel, and you just tuned it so you know you have ignition. It will start so you have combustion. So the only thing I can think of is vacuum leak. I know once mine got started it ran like a bat out of hell it was just the startup. After I replaced the Vacuum Disconnect it worked great.
