Another headlight question

Thanks for the help in advance...

I spent my lunch swapping out the headlight switch (headlights would flicker on and off), but now nothing works. When I put the push rod back in, I didn't feel like it caught, so it just slides in and out without the normal halfway point stop for the driving lights and then all the way for headlights.

Did I break it that easily, or do I need to monkey around with the rod to get it to grab? Should I be looking at something else?

After looking at the old unit, I think the new one is broken. It won't grab on the plunger - cheap duralast replacement

grrr.... pulled out the new one and now the plunger works fine. At least now I know how it goes in. I forgot to unplug the batter when I unplugged it, but I'll do that when I reinstall it. Did I screw up and possibly blow a fuse?
