Another edition of name that squeal!

Vehicle: '99 XJ sport, 140k miles, recent serpentine belt replacement, tensioned to 160 lbs. using krikit tool

Symptoms: Chirping that becomes faster and higher pitched with throttle. I'd describe it as bad bearing noise. From *looking* at it, appears to be the PS pump, but not 100%. What's throwing me is that there are no leaks or changes in noise as I rotate the steering wheel. Maybe idler pulley or water pump?

Before I spend tonight in the dark/rain, any tips for more accurate diagnosis?

Maybe I'll replace both since they both have 140k on the clock, but that will only guarantee that the problem will be something else.

If this helps, when my water pump went it was also doing the tell-tale coolant leak out the weep hole in the lower part of the pump.
Might want to check for that if you haven't.

I'm pretty sure it's the PS pump and I figured I'd change it out tonight. 45 minutes or an hour perhaps. The Jeep had other ideas. Sometimes the Jeep wins.

The new pulley is too small for the PS pump shaft. I managed to seat it about 50%. Awesome. No amount of brute strength could get it seated. I quit when my hands started bruising and bleeding. No deal. Not sure where to go from here.
