Questions are good but no, even with the driver's side setup, such as mine and srmitchell's there is no problem with rain getting in. I'm still running a paper filter and have been in tremendously heavy rain without issue.

If you cut the cowl over the cabin air intake (the rectangular opening on the passenger side of the cowl) then you've probably got water dripping into the cabin through that. Go buy some thin-wall 4" sewer pipe, cut it down to a foot long section, chop off 1/3rd laterally to make it C-shaped, and push it over the opening (the hood hinge will clamp it down).

Cowl Air intake question.
The picture below is from srmitchell's cowl build thread
![]() I was thinking about combining this design with the passenger side filter in the cowl design. Basically if we are looking at that picture I would want the hole in the firewall to be basically in the middle between the two barcodes on the sticker beside the hole he made. Those wires should be easy to just squeeze down a bit and then I can have one short ABS pipe, then either a flexable tube(easiest) or a joint to go into the cowl where a filter would sit. Am I overlooking something or would this not make more sense than the passenger side intake or even the drivers side with the airbox. The reason I ask is that airbox is taking up valuable real estate that I would like to free up. What do you guys think?

Right now I'm collecting all the write-ups I can on this to see how I can change it up and maybe make it a bit cheaper. How about some plumbing pvc elbows in place of the flexible tube going to the filter?

The Spectre flexible tube I bought was $20. You can spend that very quickly when you start working with PVC but also the rib on the hood can make contact with the rigid stuff if you don't get the hole low enough. It just squishes the flexible stuff a little. I don't want to know what happens when it shuts against something that doesn't give.

^^^ Makes sense to me. I might go that route afterall. $20 for the flex ****e, $35 for a cone filter, $10 for exhaust pipe, and $20 for other odds and ends still only puts the total at $85, which isn't too bad.

bumping an old thread:
Eric, now that you have been running this for a while do you have any issues? what would you change if anything. this is going to be one of my next mods, I want to run an OBA compressor where the stock airbox is.

It has been working fine and I probably wouldn't change anything.
I have also noticed some water on the passenger side floor mat when I wash it, but since I have the husky mats it isn't a big issue. If it was a bigger issue for me I could fix it, but it isn't that bad.

thanks man.... this is a socal vehicle so we see rain about once every 7.4 years
so I'm not to worried, I would probably just find any holes and seal them anyways.so what is the fix on that passenger side leak; I guess there is just a vent that needs a cover? ![]()

i followed erics write-up almost to a T, only changing a few little things and havent had any problems with water or anything else. the one thing that i have noticed is that is fairly loud in the cabin and has a slight whistle when im on the gas. but peace of mind trumps the noise anyday

okay whew i read it all. i know you had a million questions already about it but i do have one does it interfere with the heat at all we see sub zero weather much of the year so that is my biggest concern.
that jumper set up sounds brilliant, it would even be great for a DD. ![]() (sry, i didn't mean to post this twice) |
