put it on some gravel or dirt or sand and mash the gas, you will know. could just be the part time indicator. i had a friend with the light stuck on for years...

that's two counts of a '90 with the part time light staying on, then going off when you accelerate (my buddies Jeep).....Lemme gues you have a 5 speed and the NP231 right? The only way to tell if it's in wheel is to see if your front tired are spinning....it should also be harder to turn on dry roads.

push it in 2wd and drive back like 5 feet. Mine does that sometimes and it will come out nice and smoothly if I drive backward a few feet. It takes tension off the front driveline.

If your 90 has the vacume operated right axel disconnect then you could have a vacume leak somewhere. The light is operated by a vacume switch that is controlled by the vacume powered disconnect thing on the front axel. Your transfer case could be in 2 wheel drive but the front axel could still be connected.

what if I just disconnect the vacuum plug on the axel, will it be safe to drive on dry pavement?
