Airbag light, need opinions please

I have read through a bunch of the previous postings about the issue and have some stuff to check out, the jeep is not my only vehicle but I do drive it the most. Looking for some feedback before I tear into it.

I have had the Airbag light come on about a dozen times now (about 7 just today). I was aware of tapping the dash to see if that cleared it up but never did immediately so I think I am ruling out the loose connections on the cluster.

since it happened multiple times today I was able to do a little more testing based off the info I had read previously. when the light came on I could not turn the cruise control on (guessing this is normal) the light went out shortly after and i continued on my drive, came back on again and went right back out. I didn't check the horn because I was in traffic and didn't want to be that guy.

After the 3rd time I got the idea to turn the cruise on to see what would happen if the light comes on again and sure enough it did, this time for what seemed about 5 miles but the cruise control worked fine, I was able to set it while the gauges were all froze and tach and speedo at 0

The last few times it came on, I happened to be making a turn shortly thereafter and it seemed as soon as I made the turn the light goes off and cluster is back to normal

my thoughts at this point before I start tearing into it is there is an issue with the clock spring.

If that is the case I noticed there are 2 available, with or without cruise control, I have no use for cruise so could i buy the one for without cruise and just remove the cruise control components?

thanks in advance and sorry about the long winded message

I would go with the clockspring route as well. If you look at a FSM wiring schematic for your clock spring you might be suprised how many circuits actually run through it and can cause all sorts or strange issues with dash lights and functions.

thanks for the quick reply, after reading about the issue at length I am not surprised about the clock spring having so many circuits running through it. Any thoughts on getting the clock spring that is made for jeeps without cruise control and just eliminating the cruise control?

I don't see an issue with it, but for peace of mind I would look at a diagram just to make sure it wont mess with anything else.

definitely pulling a diagram for sure, I started looking around and it appears now that clockspring with cruise control is actually cheaper, best price I've been able to find is $190, not sure this is a part I want to get from the junkyard and end up having to redo the job soon afterwards if I get one that doesn't have much life left in it
