Air Conditioning Problem

My 2000 XJ has an odd problem with the AC, it makes an awful squeal that goes away after a few minutes. I know it has something to do the AC cause it only happens when the Jeep is ran with AC, I finally got it on video so please watch it to get an idea.

Try tightening the fan belt.

Mine did the same thing today right after start up, just not quite as bad. I knew it was the belt slipping, so I shut off the air and it quit. I drove it about a mile then started the air again and no problem.

I am thinking that it is not the A/C but the alternator having a hard time with the load of running the a/c and recharging the battery after start up. My reasoning behind this is that there was no issue after it ran for a minute or 2.

Bingo. Even if its the alternator is causing the problems its still the belt.
