do you have to rev it high for it to run? IF so, MAP Sensor, lovely little thing bolted to the fire wall with a harness and a vacuum hose going to it

So you can get it to run as long as ya hit the gas? Thats what happened to me when my IAC sensor/motor went out.

Does the engine crank over slowly? Can you keep it running by revving it for a minute or two? Try that and see if it keeps running when you let off the gas.

Could be a bad battery. Someone told me that the computer can forget the idle and the engine will die if the battery is bad. Well, a new battery later, I haven't had the problem since.

I have the same issue. One day it starts like nothing's wrong, and the next I either a) don't get any response when I turn the key, nothing b) crank it and have to give it gas to keep it from dying or c) crank it, give it gas, then turn off the engine only to have it start normally the next time. I checked the battery and it seems fine (but I do know that sometimes the battery checks out but in reality needs to be replaced).

Problem is, I can't test this with another battery because this issue is so random. It can start without problems for a whole week and then gets *****y all of a sudden.

So which is it, the MAP sensor, the IAC sensor or the battery? Bah...

Do you have a check engine light? Do you have sound fuel pressure? Do you have solid spark?

Nope, no check engine light but I haven't checked the plugs for about a year. Seems like everything's good, no problems with fuel pressure or plugs.

Nope, that's the fuel pump ballast resistor. They didn't have them on a 96.
