Not without having adapters. They are different patterns.

Don't you think it's a little earlyto be thinking about new wheels? Did you even buy it yet? Why don't you justdrive it in stock form for the time being and see if it turns out to be a reliable car

Judging by the pics and if there are no major rust problems underneath, that looks like a pretty clean XJ. If you don't grab it someone else will. But contrary to others opinions I have seen no evidence to make me believe that Xj values are going up with age. These are not muscle cars and they are not antique's.... Yet. Offer em $2500 then if you get it sell me the seats

A lot of times, letting a vehicle sit can hurt it more than driving it a lot. Especially if it sat outside in the weather. Look closely at the undercarriage. Brake lines, fuel lines, etc. If they don't get driven, the moisture just sits on parts and rusts it to death. If it was in a temp. controlled garage, you may be just fine. I see many low mileage vehicles come into the dealer I wrench at, looking good outside, but rusted everywhere underneath. $2500 doesn't sound bad if it's clean.

Alright heres the info I have after the check over...
Bought originally by some doctor in the 80's was sold to an old lady who owned it for the majority of its life and it sat in a garage most of the time and was driven a little bit.
In the last 2 years or so it was sold to a younger kid for $1200 who started it right up and gummed things up a little.
He then sold it to his uncle who now owns it. His uncle got everything going right and did all of the following in the last year.
Replaced fuel pump and filter and had the gas tank steam cleaned
New brakes all around
New exhuast front to back
All driveshafts and U-joints checked by a personal friend mechanic (not a local city guy) one U-joint cahnged out I believe front
All diff fluids changed
New tires
New battery, spark plugs, and spark plug wires
New headliner
New liftgate struts
When driving the jeep it was as tight and smooth as I would expect possible from a 25 year old XJ. The only thing that I am wondering is that it made a kind of soft droning noise that seemed to be coming from the rear diff when you let off the gas and are coasting. Its very slight and I may be over analyzing but if anyone has any thoughts throw it at me
Also there is NO RUST of any kind that I can see crawling underneath it looked very clean!
Also no indication to have a cracked block from what I can tell
The HVAC worked fine
Stereo does not work
All power everything works except the rear passenger window and the rear passenger lock
A couple of small blemishes on the exterior and the fading clear coat on roof and very slight on hood.
That being said I got him down to $3000 and have everything arranged to meet him tomorrow to buy it. What are the thoughts on that.

Sound like a decent deal. Just a shot in the dark about the noise from the rear. It is very common for these XJ's to have rear diff issues especially if it's a dana 35. They are weak period. The good news is even if it needs to replaced soon there are many options to upgrade it and not to costly. If you were just looking for any transportation $3000 is a bit high. If you want a Jeep and like the XJ's it's a good deal. I would buy that.

Antique is 25 years meaning 87 turns antique this year and previous year Cherokees have been antiques for a while now. 87 is also the last year they were manufactured under the Jeep Corporation brand before AMC sold to Chrysler.
Prices aren't skyrocketing but they are going up. Ask anyone who watches prices on these regularly and they'll tell you the same thing.
It's a Jeep, it's one of the most popular vehicles ever built, it's one of the most reliable vehicles ever built, it's still got a huge following, and there's still tons of aftermarket support for it. They're also getting increasingly hard to find, especially in good condition and especially in low mileage. There's no reason to think that the prices on them in this condition aren't going to go anywhere but up.

I would have to slap you if you put Rubi wheels on that thing. Something that clean, that has survived this long in such great shape only deserves to be driven and enjoyed in the pure '80's greatness that is a 1st gen XJ Limited.

I do this for a living. We are seeing prices going up for a few reasons. One, nobody was buying new for the last few years, if they aren't buying there will be fewer used... trickle down effect. Everybody has to spend more money for a used car, jeeps are no different.
Two its supply and demand, they are getting rarer. This is a rustbelt area and isnt nice to steel. You can find junk but good stuff brings the bucks.
I just bought a 01 sport from Texas with 91k. Absolutely no rust for $2100, I can flip it for $5500 easy. 5 years ago I bought a 00 with 66k for $600...

This.
We're even starting to take them in for our used lot at work and we normally don't even take a second look at anything over 6 or 7 years old before shipping it off to a wholesale dealer. They don't sit on the lot long at all before they get snatched up by someone either.

Agreed. Demand is going up. Supply is going down. Thats how it works. But motorcharges original statement was "Age should only increase the value" Sorry but no one is going to pay more for an 87 than a 99 of equal miles and condition. Thus the age of the vehicle is not the factor of value. These are damn fine tough little utility vehicles. These are not collector cars. I also think we should cease the high jacking of this thread. rkp25 I hope everything goes well with your new to you 87 XJ. Welcome to the club/addiction Just don't try to re-sell it at Barret Jackson

Age should increase it on an 87 given that it just became an antique and there are more than a few people out there who don't want a Chrysler product and would pay more for an AMC XJ.
I'd pay more for this one over a 99 in similar condition and mileage any day of the week.
