AC evaporator...replace while doing heater core?

Like the title says, should I? I'm just thinking about what a PAIN it is to get in there, and although the AC worked last summer, it is a 14 year old XJ now. Is it a pain to change since I am already going to be in there?

Yes, go ahead and do it while you're there. You will have to remove the send and return lines from the evaporator core to remove the air handler box to get the heater core out anyway. The only difference will be the cost of the evaporator core. The amount of time and effort will be nearly identical with or without replacing the evaporator core.

Oh, HE// yeah! Change it, you do not want to tear that dash apart again... ever. And I'd take a look and see if I could find a way to lubricate the blower motor bearings while I was in there also, although you can get the blower motor out without dismantling the dash. You do have to discharge the AC and move the accumulator, though.

Definitely do it while you're in there!

ONe more thing: The cheapest evaporator core from rockauto is IDENTICAL to the one that came out of my Jeep with one exception - the rockauto part says 'Made in USA' on it while the one that came out of the Jeep says 'Made in China' on it.
