about the Cherokee of the Month

Lets finalize what we want to do with this. We had some discussion of it in http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/jason-aka-jeepin-coms-way-sweet-xj-59663/ and here is what we have come up with. Please vote and make comments if you'd like.

Proposal

1) "Cherokee of the Month" (COM) entries will be done by nominations only. The process of submitting a nomination is as follows -

- You must send me an email (email address to ba announced) with the persons name you wish to nominate. The nominee (person you are nominating) must be a registered JeepForum member.
- You must notify the nominee that you would like to submit his/her XJ for a nomination in the COM. Remind him/her that they must reply to me (see next step).
- Nominee must send me an email stating that he wishes to be nominated, and if so he can submit a list of modifications, vehicle description, and pics (no more than 2). Pics do not need to be hosted on the web just sent to me via email. I will reserve the right to alter the pic size since I will be the one hosting them. Preferred viewing size is 640 x 480 or smaller.

2) You may not nominate yourself.

3) Nominations will be accepted beginning on the 15th of the month. (I will post a reminder to the forum on that date with the email to submit nominations to)

4) There is no limit to the number of entries that will be in the running each month but please only submit one nomination each month.

5) Voting will begin on the 25th of each month. No more entries will be accepted once voting begins.

6) Voting will end on the first of the month and the winner will be the entry with the most votes.

7) The winner of the COM will have a sticky thread dedicated to them until another COM is selected the following month. Other awards/benefits may be decided at a later date such as being automatically enetered into a JeepForum Calender etc.

8) If your Cherokee is voted a winner for the COM, it cannot be re-entered for a period of 12 months.

It's a good idea and I like what's been laid out so far.

In the members forum, we've been discussing a similar idea for an overall Jeep/Rig of the month since the beginning November. Perhaps if it starts in the Cherokee forum the powers that be will finally take notice.

We (FunkSkunk, Naekid and myself) came up with a list of questions to ask the winner about their Jeep. We figured that the list of answers could be put into the sticky as well. (edit - That's the only reason I voted 'No, Please Change'...but that vote was because I'd like to see at least a portion of the following stuff added) Here is that list:

We most definitely can add this to the winner's sticky.

Were we gonna have "themed" months? Like stock Cherokee or raised or colored? Other than that I voted yes. Can't wait!

Just to clarify for idiots like me....

I'm confused on the order or nomintaing & such.

Lets say I want to nominate "superjeeperguy". I inform him I want to nominate him, then he talls me yes, then I submit it to you (ericsxj) & then superjeeperguy has to contact you (ericsxj) and tell you it's OK as well. Then you'll add them to the list of nominees... right?

Yes but its easier than that.

1. You tell me who you are would like to nominate. (superjeepguy)
2. You tell the nominee (superjeepguy) that you are putting his name up for nomination.
3. The nominee (superjeepguy) tells me that he accepts the nomination.

I would like to know who you are nominating first, that way I don't get an email out of nowhere saying "I accept the nomination" without me knowing who has put his name up for nomination. So all you really need to do is step 1 and 2 and it is up to the nominee to do step 3. If I don't get a responce from the nominee, it won't be a valid entry.

I hope this makes sense - I want it to be as clear as possible and this was the easiest and fairest way I could think of.

That was an idea that was brought up, but I don't think we will pursue it further unless there are more people that say they want it done that way.

I realize guys with no lift or small lifts may feel like it will be impossible to win, but I don't believe that is true. I expect the first few months to have a lot of entries with built rigs, but remember once someone wins they can't re-enter for 12 months. Also it all depends on who you guys are nominating. Some months I might get a lot of nominations and other months I might only get a few. If the only rigs that are nominated are smaller then thats what it will be. Is this a "popularity contest"? Well, Yes it is. But I want you guys to nominate and vote for the Cherokees that you feel are special, unique, or well built, not "I want to vote for "Jimmy" because he is my brother-in-law." And just because someone might have huge tires on their rig DOESN'T necessarily mean that its better built than someone with smaller tires. So don't hesitate to nominate and vote for someone with a smaller jeep. If you think it deserves a chance then please enter it.

Just a suggestion, but what if we had "Cherokee's of the Month". By this I mean having size divisions so more people have a shot and the "little guys" don't feel left out. For example, the groups could be broken down into three groups; 0-3", 3.5"- 5", 5.5" and up. The winners of each group would share a sticky, but it would give a little more substance to the thread, have more of an equal opportunity for everyone, and give new JeepForum members inspiration that even they can make an impression no matter what lift they have.
Nominations would work the same, but when nominating someone, or accepting nominations, the members just need to mention what group they will be competing in. When voting time comes, list the nominees by group. Example:

Your nominees for the 0-3" division are:
XXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXX

Your nominees for the 3.5"-5" division are:
and so on.

Anyways, I like what you guys have come up with so far, just thought I would throw another idea in there.

Here are a few more questions I thought of that may be of interest. I know all this stuff will make the thread somewhat thick, but it makes for good reading when the forums are slow.

What was your first jeep and when did you get it?
How many jeeps have you had?
What got you hooked on "the jeep thing"?
Not including the cost of the jeep, how much money do you estimate have you spent on modifications in your entire "jeep thing" life time?

OK, I'll stop now.

I like gottabe's suggestion about considering everyone, but I believe it'll get to hectic for eric who's taking care of everything.

Plus I think we'd run out of guys with 5.5"+ lift

Maybe a Stocker & modified categories once we have it dialed in

You guys all have good points.

If we divide it up into categories I would like to limit it to just 2. Theres a couple ways to do it and heres some options -

Option A
"Stocker" category (stock suspension height, includes UpCountry)
"Modified" category (anything lifted)

Option B
"Stocker Plus" category (stock, UpCountry, 2" Budget Boost)
"Modified" category (3" lift and higher)

Option C
"Mild but Wild" category (anything up to 3.5" lift)
"Modified" category (4" lift and higher)

Category names can be changed...

Everyone post which option you would like or no option at all (original plan)

I want to get a lot of input on this... if you voted please post your preference!

I personally prefer "Option B", since it seperates the (basically) stock suspensions from the modified ones. Maybe with different titles though. Maybe "Lightly Modified" and "Heavily Modified"?

I mean, c'mon Eric...for Option C - "Mild but Wild"? That's a little hokey, don't cha think?

Rock On!
