a20ftsloth's '93 XJ Cupholder Build

I thought I'd share my cupholder build for my 1993 Jeep XJ. As far as materials go, I used PVC board, 3" PVC pipe, PVC 700 weld glue, deck screws, Rustoleum primer and satin black spray paint, recycled floor mats, nickel tacks, super glue, and screw caps.

I started by cutting the pipe, making then 2" deep, adding a cap to the bottom, and inserting a smaller rim inside.

Next was to cut out a face for the cups.

Next I had to develop a frame to secure it to the console. This has proven itself to be the most difficult task as the console has many twists and curves.

Due to poor hand cutting, I had to fill the gaps between the boards. I chose to use blobs of the PVC glue and then form it with a knife.

The primer that I had used was very old and actually bubbled when it dried, thus causing the wrinkly appearance to the paint. Although, I don't mind how it looks that much. One bubble did pop by accident so I just took it off.

Finally I had tacked on the rubber supports and glued on the screw caps. All in all, it turned out pretty neat looking.

Here is how it sits on the console now.

Now that it's over, I do think about how I could have done things differently, but I am not upset with the finished product by any means. It gets the job done! Honestly, it matches the interior pretty well. Tell me what you think.
