99 xj interior lights don't turn off!!!!!

Hey guys,

This might be a stupid question but this has been annoying me for some time now and I can't find any post's about it.

I own a 99 xj and I do not have a switch to turn off my interior lights so I can have my doors open without draining the battery. If im correct these year models did not come with a ON and OFF switch correct? I'm tired of having to unplug my battery when im working inside my jeep

If that's the case how exactly can I go about wiring a switch so I can control them.

Twist the headlamp knob. It controls the dimmer for the instrument cluster and when all the to the right it will turn ON the dome lamps.

If your headlamp knob does not turn off the dome lamps look for a short circuit or a burned switch. The pin switches int the door frame commonly fail and the Cherokee cargo area lamp likes to overheat and melt the switch inside the lamp.
