99 4.0 not staying on

my 99 xj L6 4.0 wont stay on, i can start it like normal and apply gas to keep it on but as soon as i let off it dies, theres a check engine light on but no way to check it since i cant keep it on long enough to take it up the road to get it coded. ive cleaned the IAC to see if that would help but it didnt help at all, ive been told it could be my fuel filter, my fuel pump, my fuel pump relay, or my vacuum hoses, where do you guys think i should do next?

I'd suggest that you beg, borrow or rent a code reader. Your local parts store may be able to help you with this.

There are WAY too many possibilities for us to make any reasonable guesses as to what you should do. You MUST have this code.

When you get the code(s), post the EXACT codes here for comment; not just a description. With OBD, the devil is definitely in the details.

Only buy mopar sensors. This one from advanced will probably be junk too. And get the code throwing parts won't fix things unless you get lucky..
