Would you have a grooved idler pulley? Thats the only thing Im not sure about in that last diagram, the grooved side of the belt would run on the idler.

Ahh my friend .. good eye .. I didnt catch that .. damn ..

Ill figure something out .. I really want to relocate my alt ... This would be the perfect time to do it ... but I have been so busy I'm just going to fix the pulley problem I have and work on the doors and tail gate and stuff.

Well damn .. that totally just shot down that plan

I was hoping to isolate the AC so it was not hooked up and still have the jeep running so I could take the AC out in my own time .. fab up a bracket and get a new ALT and install it .. then just run a new belt and take the old alt out after everything seemed to be working well.

I could do this then.

Dont worry man you will get it figured out! So you dont want ac? What if you relocated the alt to the ac spot? Fab up a bracket and then incorporate an idler pulley around that area. Then simply remove the current idler pulley. Il have to take a look under my hood to see if you can simply pull the idler, it should affect the ps pump mount. Either way keep thinking up ideas and get other projects on the jeep done, cant wait to see more progress!

Have you seen the jeep tj 4.0 they use an tensioner ... that has a spring that keeps the right pressure on the belt at all times... I wonder if I can use that. I really like the way you think!

Its called an automatic tensioner pulley or something like that.

oh and the ac.. I think my heater core is bad and my ac and heat stopped working.. but I'm doorless all the time and I NEVER use it, and I thought it would be good for the alt to get it up high to keep it out of water and stuff.

Heres a pic of the alt up high and the auto tension pulley

score .. Rugged Ridge Tensioner Pulley (05-06 Wrangler TJ w/4.0L Engine) .. 60$

What I need to find is that bracket that bolts to the 4.0 that is for an alt and holds that pulley .. maybe it will bolt right up .... Sounds like its going to be junk yard time

Now your on the right track! I have never peeked into a tj engine bay, I like how high the alt is and that tensioner would work perfect there. It looks like if you find that alternator bracket with the auto tensioner, as long as it bolts right up your in business other than finding the right size belt. Got me interested man

Seems possible. Do you think it will clear the WP and/or the fan? The tensioner that is. If so, that's a genius mod. That couples with the top alternator, you win sir haha. Let me know how it goes!

I dont know ... That would be the reason I hope it works (if it has the clearance) ! ..

but the only way to find out is to try it .. so when I put the pulley on Ill see how it goes.

I really need to find one of those TJ alt brackets
