97 trim faded and loosening - paint it?

my 97 sport has black plastic (?) fender flares and trim along the doors, all of which are fading to a bright grey. Also a couple pieces on the doors are starting to seperate from the doors at the corners. I have tried coating them in tire/trim treatment stuff, but it doesn't last longer than a week, and then it is back to bright gray instead of black.

Someone told me they knew someone who had a wranger and found some type of plastic paint that would soak into this type of trim. Has anyone done this or found any other ways to deal with this issue, and are the trim pieces easy to remount if I remove them?

Krylon fusion, spray paint specificly made for painting plastic.

the trim is mounted with double sided 3M foam tape.

you would clean up the old residue with some kinda adhesive remover, Goo-Gone, ect so you could remount them

I have the same problem with my '97. I used "Back to Black" once, but it lasted only a few days.

Krylon has a new paint designed specifically for plastic. It's called 'Fusion". I was going to try this stuff on my fender flairs and trim, but haven't got around to it. If it doesn't work, I planned to see if I could order new flairs and trim from the dealer or an online parts source.

Back to Black is good for somethings and not so good for others

I have used it with good results on pretty much any vehicle with black mirrors and door handles and rub strips (not large moulding type trim) and it works quite well, bumpers are kinda 50/50 as too how well it works. never used it on flares before

I want to know what the factory does to make it last so long, before it starts to really fade fast .

Try duplicolor trim paint. Did my 98 a few months ago, and you cant tell the difference between the painted flare and the original bumper end cap.
