97+ Power Window Fix w/ pics.

I dunno why I didn't come across this writeup sooner, but I've seen others mention using the search feature for the solved problem.

In no way am I taking credit for this, but since this is a problem for many, I decided to go ahead and take some pics of while I was fixing stuff up.

Here are the directions (which came from this thread: http://jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=257395&page=2&highlight=bypass+wi ndow+lock) , I'll post pics up at the corresponding steps.

pretty simple, should look like so once everything's removed:

Strip the insulation off that wire for a short distance (1/2 inch), and SOLDER one end of the jumper wire to this tan wire. Tape the connection tightly once soldered.
6. One the WHITE connector attached to the driver's power window switch assembly, there is a YELLOW COLORED WIRE that goes to pin #8 on that connector. Strip the insulation off that wire for a short distance (1/2 inch), and solder the other end of the jumper wire you created to this yellow wire. Tap the connection tightly, once soldered.
Before taping: My soldering skills aren't the greatest, but they get the job done.

(I read the directions wrong and accidently cut the white wire cuz I'm an idiot , so just completely forget about that wire! )

After taping:

I didn't use the exact length wire as described in the directions (if you can tell I haven't been following them that greatly) so I would recommend using a longer piece of wire then the one I have. It works just fine but has a tad less play then I would like it to.

I usually botch up all the simple things, but this was quite a fix, and that nice lil' creature comfort of passengers being able to control their own windows is back. So for those that are more visual then verbal, I hope this helps out.

I've found the lock out switch can be cleaned with a tuner/contact cleaner and it'll work again.

Thanks for the post. ....much cheaper than replacing the switch with a used one. Especially if you considered getting a brand new one from your local Jeep "stealership"

Ok now all that works, excellent, but one problem now... The circle for the power mirrors doesn't light up. The mirrors work, but not the light. Does anyone know how to fix that?

Was it working before? I highly doubt one wire has much of anything to do about that light, BUT I'll make sure that I check mine to make sure it still works. Maybe the light could be blown out or somethin... might need to open that whole thing and check it out.

I think in the link from the first post explains what this fix is. Anypoop, some have had the problem to where the passengers cannot control the downage (made up word) of their own windows, only the driver has full control. It's been narrowed down to the window-lock button which it seems as if after a while, the connection breaks or somethin, and the window-lock is permanently on. This fix goes through and completely by-passes the window-lock so all windows can be controlled via not only driver, but passenger controls.

Umm I duno if it worked before, cant really remember. But when I press down the pw lock switch all the lights on the circle go on... It really doesn't matter I guess but it just pisses me off... so if anyone can explain this so i can fix it it would be sick.

Thanks

I just finished, and it works great!

^^ I missed this screw, and I fought the door panel for 15 mins, then I noticed the screw and everything was cake from there on out.

I noticed my lil' light as well doesn't come on either... I'm doin' a whole bunch of jeep work this week so if I get around do an electrical diagram or two maybe I can find out why the light doesn't come on... although for me it's something so small and doesnt effect the overall driveability of the jeep, so if someone else gets to it before me (which might happen ) all can be highly grateful!

ok.......

the problem i have is that the only window that works is the drivers window. the passenger windows do not work, even from the drivers side control. i tried this jumper trick but it didnt do anything. all the lights for the windows buttons work on the drivers door, but not on the passenger doors.

the difference between my problem and the problem that everyone else has had, is that i cannot even control the passenger side windows with the drivers door controls, where everyone else has been able to lower all their windows from the drivers side controls.

PLEASE HELP!! has anyone had MY problem and fixed it?? what else can i try?!?!?!?!

The lights in the door switches are driven by the same power source as the switches themselves. No lights means no power to the switch.

If you did the jumper thing correctly, and you STILL don't have power, it's likely you have several broken wires in the door hinge line where they return to the body and head on over to the other doors. Time to dig out the VOM and start probing............
