ok guys so my search on metal tail light housing for our 97 + has led me to eather too high of a price or none at all so i got to looking at the stock tail lights and it doesent look that hard, so i am in the process of designing them and wanted some input on what kind of lights would look good. and if all goes well i have a lot of stock to make a couple extra so ...
im not promising that they will follow the body line like the factory but good enough to get the job done

ok guys i guys i have it all drawn out and looks pretty good over the stock tail light just have to cut it out and see how it goes.

i have put them in just havent put i pic up
im p'lanning on using these (2) White 2.5" Round 13 LED Mini Reverse Backup Lights:eBay Motors (item 140352678771 end time Oct-25-09 17:04:52 PDT)
dont know if they will any better than stock but well see
im hoping to keep it under 200 with lights included

It looks like your on the right track with everything. Id suggest maybe making the outside edge of your lights an arc though, as the body line will follow this much better. The factory taillights also 'taper' in as they get closer to the rear hatch (yes, this makes it a PITA to make), but can be done with a little time and attention to detail.

I used the oval lights and white reverse lights from Super Bright LEDs - LED Products and Accessories
The reverse lights are no way near as bright as the factory ones, but I didnt care to much about that...just needed something to keep me legal.

If you plan on wiring up the oval lights for stop, tail, and turn lights (i.e eliminating a seperate light for a turnsignal), then you'll need this to wire them up:

It HAS to be this converter for the lights to work. Dont as me how or why, but I spent ALOT of time reading around and seeing what did and didnt work.

yeah mine on paper looks like yours so should look good, saw super brite's web site thismoring but there prices are higher then the ones i found so ill try the ones i found and see. might have to go back to good old incandescent lights
i have the big radius on the out side line it some thing like 99.5" dia.
