97- door panels on 97+ doors?

Anyone ever do this? I have a 2000 XJ donor and Im working on my 1991 MJ. I dont want to swap the dash and I know that the passenger door will interfere with the glove box if I put the new doors on my MJ, plus I dont like the look of the 97+ door panels with the 97- interior.

But I do want some of the advantage of the 97+door. (Larger side view, single peice window glass, ability to run 6.5" speaker)

Can't switch door panels...not even the same shape or size.
Nothing on the new doors interferes with anything inside...new doors fit just fine but you have to move the striker.

I've never noticed that with mine...hmm... only problem is see is closing the door with it down. The glove box doesn't open much more than that anyways.

Yep, went out and looked at mine. Glove box hits door.

I guess just don't leave the glove box down when you close the passenger door.
The glove box only drops down another half inch maybe when the door is open.
In 2 years after doing the swap I have never noticed so it must not be a big deal...

This is how far the glove box on my 88 Mj opens,

My main concern is that new new style door panels look odd with the older interior.

Not the best picture but I think the new doors look just fine with the old interior. Everything in mine is black so you can't really tell.

Here is another pic,

Im not sure I like the look. I think I'll go pop the panel of my 97+ donor and see how it looks sitting in my MJ.

How did you deal with the wiring of your locks, windows, side views?

I ripped ALL the wiring out when I redid my truck since I didn't need any wires under the hood, and bought a painless kit so I just ran new wiring to EVERYTHING. But I think it's all just splicing in wires from the 2 harnesses.

Makes sense. I didnt realize at Painless made door harness for XJ/MJ. Was it a universal kit? I would love to be able to buy a new harness for my 93 ZJ doors. Im pretty sick of soldering and heat shrinking broken wires on my and my friends/families ZJ's.

It's not a jeep kit. It's an old dodge car/mopar harness I think. It was the kit with the least amount of wires in it. I didn't need anything fancy under the hood with my engine and just the few inside the cab
