I just bought a 97 'cherokee and it came with keyless remotes that did not have batteries. I've bought cr2016 and cr2025 batteries and neither of them seem to work. Do i not have the right battery or do the remotes need to be programmed again?

Consider that the remotes are broken, or that they are not the original ones, and need reprogramming. 1997-2001 the remotes can only be programmed at the Dealership.

The remotes for the '97s use (2) 2016 batteries one on top of the other. Once installed, you can check to see if they work at Autozone or Advance Auto. Look for broken contacts inside the remote. Some newer remotes seem to break contact easily. This can be fixed with a soldering iron.

Thanks that worked wonders. One of the two remotes works again. That's good enough for me. Cheers!!
