96 gear shift replacment.

hey guys,
was looking into a better condition shift knob and bezal because mines old like most and comming apart. what iim wondering is is there any way to swap out a xj shift assembly for maby a nicer looking grand cherokee assembly if its the same year, ive seen a few on ebay that look nice but i dout they would work. il probly end up going to the junkyard andjust getting another factory piece but was wondering what everyone els has done or replaced theirs with, thanks for the help.
