Have the radiator rodded out by a repair shop. Also it is a closed system, on my 89 I had to burp it several times even after it was warm. Try turning on the heater and continue filling.

when you say it is overheating, is it getting into the red or blowing coolant out of the cap? Usually these things run pretty hot 210F Many have reported.

my 89 threw a fit the other week.

i flushed the system and re filled with new antifreeze

removed my thermostat

and went to the junk yard and got a electric AC fan and installed it. it fits right in place with the engine fan shroud. looks clean too.

on the highway it will run 110* but sometimes in town when its hot out it will got ot 210*

it always ran 210* before i had the 220-240* spike from pulling a trailer

Probably just needs to be burped, if you have a radiator cap its easy. I installed a radiator cap into my upper radiator hose for pretty cheap. Just open it up, turn the rig on and let it run. Just keep filling it till the fluid level doesn't go down anymore. Then top off the overflow bottle.

It sounds like the root cause of your overheating may be air in the system. You need a better cap and bottle to maintain the pressure of the coolant system and you need to follow the burbing proceedure.

A new mechanical clutch for the fan would be a wise investment as well.

I feel ya, the same was happening to me, The person at the Safety and Emissions place over heated it, and i guess it ruined the thermostat. I filled the radiator threw the hose, because i also dont have a cap, i filled the hose up, and put my mouth over it and blew the coolant down into the radiator, and it fixed, good luck!
