88 XJ needs an engine soon

Hi all

This is my first post. I need some advice from anyone out there that's done this before...

I've got an 88 xj 4 cyl 2.6L, nothing special, and a 4 speed manual. I'm considering switching this up to a 4L 6 cyl, but don't know what i'm getting myself into yet. I know that could require a transmission change too, and i'm not opposed to that. it would be nice to have the overdrive gear at 70mph, plus power for heavier towing.

By the way, 330,000 miles on this engine and it's still kickin strong!

Thanks in advance!
