'88 XJ 4.0 dash lights wont go off after shutting off

The dash lights stay on after the key is removed and it drains the battery. can anyone estimate how much this will cost at an electrical shop?

thanks

I'd look into replacing the headlight switch first. Pick up a junkyard unit on the cheap and plug it in and see if that fixes the isse. Make sure theone you pick up is from a junkayrd XJ with glass in it to keep theinterior dry.

To verify this, just unplug the switch with the dash lights on and see if they turn off.

its not that, its not my jeep, its one we are looking at for my gf (although my headlight switch went on me last week and i replaced LOL) its the dash lights/ aacessories that come on when the key is turned halfway. the seller said the P/O tried installing a new column and the wiring might be messed up. I hope its a cheap fix because this 88 has 90k on it and it is in showroom condition. not a spec of cancer, mint paint and sweet turbine wheels. i want her to get it so bad. this is the only issue with the jeep and hes askin 700

Alrighty, misunderstood the question.

If it's the key assembly then that shouldn't be too hard to do.
