88 block vs 93 block.

I just had a 88 block and my 93 head rebuilt. Just noticed that the 88 block doesn't have a spot for the coil for the distributor. Wtf?

That's because 88 had it's coil on the passenger side inner fender. No big deal. Find a bolt on the 88 block to mount the coil.

If you own a Renix Jeep, you'll want to check this out.

Okay, I saw that last night and had bad visions of having to start over! Thanks cruiser. Phew. I wish I could upload pics. The block is international red

One more thing, hopefully. The holes for the alternator bracket on the block don't match the bolts from the 93...

I wish I could upload some pics to show what I mean. On the left side of the timing cover, there are a few holes for some long bolts. The holes in the 88 block are too small.

So the 93 uses full sized bolts instead of the necked-down ones?

That's what I'm thinking. I might not have them, as the 88 block didn't have any brackets on it. Do you know what sizes they are?

They're kinda special bolt/studs IIRC.

Aka going to be hard to find. Would I be better off tapping the hole out for the 93 bolt? Jeep dealer didn't have the bolts, only 2 in the country that have them. Called junk yard as well, no xj or Comanche that old.

Keep in mind the alternator bracket is not installed on the front side.

Won't upload the photo I just took. PM me your email address and I'll send it to you if you think it will help.
