Wow. On all my XJ's they come out pretty easy. What are you doing in there? Reason I ask is that brake cleaner will soften rubber. Might make it easier to get out. Thing is you do not want to get any inside the diff to mix with the gear oil. Might be better to hit it with some heat. Heat gun would probably be best. The rubber is probably all hard and whatnot. Explain why you are having this problem. New ones can be bought. I get mine at Napa.
