4x4 operation question
OK so I just got my new '98 and I guess I didn't realize there were the differnt types of 4x4 - "command trac" and "select trac" Based on what I've read, I wish I'd have gotten one that had the select track, Doh!
Anyways, my question is, the manual says that 4h is for "temporary" usage. It doesn't really say "how long" it just says don't use it on dry, paved roads due to excess strain etc. Can someone please elaborate on that whole topic? Also from what I read, you can shift to 4h at any given speed, but 4l has to be done at a stop or going very very slowly; is that right?

Temporary includes as long as you need it. All day if you are on a long 4x4 trail.
Clicking on SEARCH will bring up lots of info on many topics. The FAQ section also has lots of info for you. Go to the JEEP website and view the animation on JEEP 4x4 systems. The Liberty and Cherokee use similar systems. Click on Command-Trac and on Select-Trac.

4 high at any speed, for 4lo, drop down to less then 5mph and let off the gas pedal, shift smoothly, then hit the gas again.
its easier on the TC to do it at a rolling pace rather then a dead stop (unless you're stuck, and already at a dead stop)
