4.0 engine problems cont.
I haven't posted on here in a while but I am still having the same problem as I was before. Here is a description:
1993 Xj country 4.0 automatic 4 wheel drive I bought this jeep non running for a great price and with a little research I figured I would get it running for cheap. Replaced all the obvious stuff like cap, rotor, belt and things of that nature. New batter, new starter. Went to start it and it would just turn but not fire. Checked the coil and wires and was getting fire. I replaced the crankshaft position sensor and it then got better. Was turning over and still getting spark but would not fire. Checked a few more things and started to get it to back fire after replacing fuel lines and fuel pump and filter. I checked fuel pressure and it is around 45 psi. I have checked timing and it was fine before I started doing all this and checked it after and was still good. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I have overlooked. When I turn the key it turns over and gets spark and backfires and is getting fuel but will not crank and run. Anyone please help if you can. Thanks.

I'd check the distributor to make sure it's indexed correctly. I'd also check compression to make there's no surprises on that end.

I had the same issue on my '00 XJ and it turned out to just be a bad relay. Swapped it out and then started right up.
