well my local dealership does, 3000 for a rebuild (install, labor parts, all inclujsive basicallyu) and 5000 for a crate motor... I intend to just purchse another motor from the wreckers and might stroke it if i can figure out a way to do it without having to use 97 octane or whateever redicously high octane level they insist on least for some of em... so it depends on what you want to do, oh prices i qouted are canadian. I will prob see what it costs for a crate motor and ill put it in... gotta be like 1500 cheaper at least

Where is Jasper engines located, and will they do a stroker engine? To answer earlier question, motor runs good now, uses no oil, just in the mood to tinker I guess.
not to be an a$$ but if your gonna tinker why fix something that aint broke?? if your gonna do that much (time and money) why not upgrade insted of just replace?? (ie. stroker).. i mean no disrespect and do what makes you happy its your ride and money just dont make much sense to me is all
his - 68' one ton pontiac powered waggy
hers - 00' xj tail rig in the making
As others have said, if you want to tinker, the 4.0 is hardly a component in need of it, better time and money would be spent on armor, diffs, axles, etc, the 4.0 is legendary in it's reliability, other XJ parts are not. If you want to do some underhood work, try an On Board Air or an On Board Welder, both are tinkerer type projects.
