350 lt1 or chevy 350 swap anyone?

Has anyone put an LT1 350 in a Cherokee? will a sbc motor fit in an XJ and is there an adapter to keep my transfer case and tranny? Will I need a bigger radiator and will any junkyard radiators work? Is there a cheapy replacement fuel pump or will the stocker put out enough fuel (what psi do XJ's run)? I have done the LT1 swap into a 92 firebird so the wiring and basic stuff like that will be no problem but how many more hasles will there be to put one in an 89 Cherokee 4.0? Any help would be awesome I just want to see how much of a project this would be.

Thanks
Brett

for the rad, use a LT1 one.
keeping your tranny... umm maybe with a custom bell housing, but uhh can you say BANG! the LT1 puts out a good amount more power then a 4.0
getting it to work with the transfer case shouldnt be hard.
fuel pump from yours will not work, you are carb, so ~6 psi the Lt1 needs ~40

I amagine custom motor mounts will be the hardest thing if it even fits. the Fbody is a good amount winder then the XJ and it hardly fits in them, but people get them into YJ's so it cant be too hard.

My Cherokee iseither Multi port or tune port injection(89 was the first year), I put new HO injectors in it. It shouldn't be too hard for me to find an fbody radiator. Does anyone sell a bellhousing for this swap?

thanks

grand cherokee 360

Anyway, a guy I know has an LT1 in his 89 Cherokee. He said it was the worst thing he has ever done, however it is pretty cool. He also upgraded the tranny, t-case, and axles. You know its bad when you have to pull the engine to change spark plugs.

for the amount of money you would spend dropping a chevy 350 in with the trans and other stuff you could just buy a supercharger for you 4.0 or get a 4.7 stroker and stil have money lft over. but if you are hell bent on dropping a chevy small block in your xj, i have a 383 stroker that dyno'd at 587 hp @ 6200 rpms and 634 ft. lbs. @ 2300 rpms that i'll sell you for $5,000 i also have lots of other engines and tranmissions that would work for your swap idea.

Matt, if you like the 360, youd love the 408... I know if I was going through the trouble of a 360 swap, Id stroke it out to 408 and really make some power.

There is a company that makes a plate to mount an AX-15 to a 350 block. Im getting ready to start building my LT1 for this same swap. If anyone has pictures of an LT1 or any 350 for that matter in a cherokee, could you please post them. Thanks

A friend of mine put a 5.3L Vortec motor from an Envoy into his Wrangler. Aftermarket heads and cam, 4L60E trans, 231 T-case and stock Rubicon D44 front and rear. He did all the wiring and stuff himself, super clean install.

I keep bugging him to help me put one in mine, I'll let you know what it happens lol.
