33's with stock axles
i have a 3 inch lift with 31 inch tires on my jeep right now and want to trim the fenders and put 33s on. Anybody think that i would break an axle or anything bad? Or just i just go ahead and put them on?

put em on....I've been running 33's unlocked f/r for 2 years on hard hard trails just bump the obsacle and you'll get over. I've seen guys run 37's on stock axles and not break anything. just depends on how you wheel. take spare shafts anyway. good luck with rub and no flex though

If you have the 8.25 you have no worries. With the d35 you will have to be more careful.

I had a buddy tear up his front axle u-joints with 33s. (like destroyed!
) Just something to think about, check those u-joints and upgrade them if needed. Other than that, run 'em!

DONT DO IT!!!! they will break before you make it too the mall!!
but seriously it totally depends on axles, off roading conditions, how hard you drive it, etc etc. if i were you id do it but be prepared to fix em! if he has a '92 then it will be a 27 spline 8.25 which is not any better then the 35!! |

I would say do it. If you trim the front up to the very top of the fender flares (mine left scratches when i went flareless), and trim the inner pinch seam in the front fenderwell, you should be able to clear 33s. Of course I also have some additional bumpstop, but I dont get any rubbing up front as well as the cut and fold in the rear. Im running an 8.25 in the rear.

X 6 or so.
Be light on the gas pedle. You are going to have a 27 spl 8.25 or a d35 on you jeep. Either way 33s are a bit much if you want to do any serious wheeling.

You will be just fine, just remember not to spin your tires. If you start slipping tires, lay off the gas and try again.

Upgrade to 760x u-joints with full circlips in the front and you should be ok there, unless you have a low pinion 30 or a vacuum disconnect.
In the rear, the D35 and 27sp 8.25 aren't very strong. Find yourself a 29sp 8.25 or an 8.8, which can handle 33's easily.

The 27 splined 8.25 is stronger than the d35. Not as strong as the 29 splined axle, but still stronger than the 35. Bigger ring gear, larger axle tubes, and thicker axle shafts.

what are y'all talking about I beat my dana 35 with my 33's all day long....I mean throttle down death grip on the wheel driving. never broke an axle shaft....the problem is with wrap and wheel hop, not spinning tires. do it and throttle it. especially in michigan, I dont remeber there being large rock gardens up there....maybe I'm just lucky. One of my buddies throttles out pretty good on stock axles and 37's hasnt broken anything yet...has some 44's to go in but he just keeps wheeling his stock 30/35 combo. Do it....

I have ran 35" tires on two different dana35's with great success, but I am old and light on the skinny pedal. I plan to run 35" tires on my current dana 35 as soon as I get the other upgrades done, and wear out the 32's.
