Had something like that happen to me too. I was looking at a '77 CJ5 and the seller wanted 1000 for it. He sait it had a hard time starting so he thought it needed a new carb. Turned out the choke linkage wasn't hooked up, and I pointed it out to him, then he upped the price to 2500 and I said "sorry, but I only have 1000 in cash, not 2500" and left. It's still sitting there after 6 months.

awesome build, giving me some ideas

Needs paint and inside is a bit tore up and dirty from using it to work construction, but I'm emailing her back and forth right now. I can run up and check it out with $500 cash in hand Monday or Tuesday and do the paperwork at the same time. She said if she doesn't sell it by Tuesday she'll go to $500 for me. She paid $1500 for it 2 years ago. I don't think that sounds too bad to me. If I toss $500 into it to get it cleaned up and fixed a bit that will give me 2 XJ's for under $2000 total. That's the goal

Oh, and I don't have to jump on it THAT quickly. These pop up around here all the time....OBVIOUSLY since I got mine for $300 TONS of jeeps and especially cherokees for sale around here. Not huge hurry....just might need some patience.

I can't seem to find a nice 500 XJ in the area, it seems they all are either ****ed up or about 1000. I'm seriously thinking about buying one, but really there is no point as I can't drive it for a while anyway. (College freshman, no cars for freshman)

Well....for $500 you're not going to get anything that is really great. You just have to keep looking and be patient. One will pop up that someone either just wants out of their driveway or that has a small problem that the seller doesn't know how to fix. You can pick it up and drop a few $$'s into it and be in business. Patience young grasshopper...... Patience

I had this chance a little while ago actually, it was a GREAT running XJ, nothing was wrong with it. The guy bought a new car and just wanted to get rid of it. I wish I had the money then I totally would have of been all over it.

for what? $500

Man....I'm thinking I just need to have $500 sitting in the savings account at all times to capitalize on deals like that to turn around and sell. Even if I just get $100-$200 more for it that's cash in my pocket

there you go man... fix it up. I'd just be patient and pick up used parts people don't want or out of a JY to turn it into my trail rig.

Eagles won today!!! GO BIRDS!!!

Looks good! But you need to paint the endcaps and side molding too, I assume you plan to.
