2001 Cherokee Sport Door Speakers

What size are the front door speakers in a 01 Cherokee Sport? One of mine is out and the other has a short. So its time for some new ones.
Thanks

5.25. Dont get Infinity Reference. Dont ask how I know.

Your speakers probably arent the problem. The new XJs have speaker wires that get pinched and make the speaker go dead. You should just replace the broken speaker wire. But you might as well change the speaker while youre in there i guess.

I thought the new ones used 6.5" speakers front and rear... check on that. All the 96 and earlier models for sure used 5.25's up front.

Does anyone who has a newer XJ have some insight on this?

And there's nothing wrong with the Infinity References. They sound great. Which speaker you should get should be thrown up on another forum, they can tell you what numbers to look at (RMS power handling, db sensitivity, freq response, etc). I've always run Infinity References. No reason why other than I got a good deal on the first set, and never looked back. I'm running 6x9's in the front doors now, but had 4x 5.25 Infinity two way references and loved them. Pair that up with a sub and you all of a sudden have a very pleasant sounding system. Don't even need amps for them if you don't want to dump too much money into it. My Deck puts out enough power for those highs/mids to come through crystal clear.

Damn you all 97+ I want 6.5's, but im too lazy to mod them to get them to fit.

I learned something new today. I honestly thought 84-01 were 5.25. Sorry guys...

Well the fronts are 6.5 and the rears are actually 5.25, but you can "fit" some 6.5's in the rear too. I have 6.5 mounted front and rear...The fronts mounted directly in, but the rears took a little bit of drill action to make some new mounts.

Actually you are right. I just looked it up in the FSM (I always forget to look there). It says:

Quote:
The standard equipment speaker system includes
two 13.3 centimeter (5.25 inch) diameter full-range
speakers. Each speaker is mounted to the lower front
corner of the front door inner panel behind the door
trim panel.
The four speaker option adds two 13.3 centimeter
(5.25 inch)
diameter full-range speakers to the standard
speaker system, for a total of four speakers.
Each of the additional speakers is mounted behind a
grille installed on the outboard ends of a speaker
support structure, which is integral to the headliner
and located just forward of the upper liftgate opening
reinforcement near the rear of the vehicle cargo area.
It looks like most 6.5" speakers mount right up in the front and have to be persuaded to fit in the rear, but the stockers are 5.25".

Unless someone pulls their stock speakers and measures them to prove me wrong, we all are right.

I still have my stock ones laying in the basement, and now that I think about it they all seem to be the same size (from my memory at least). It is weird, if they are all the same size, that the fronts mount up perfectly and the rears require new mounting...

most 6.5s will fit but some will hit the window even if they say they will fit. I'll be pulling my polk components out of the front to see if they will fit in the rear soon.. I'll post up my findings.

I have Polk components (or maybe they are coaxial?) in the doors and the soundbar of mine (6.5). It took drilling some new holes to get the speakers to stick in the soundbar...But well worth it: spectacular, loud, and clear sound!

Yeah, your speakers are probably fine. Just the wire is broken.
