I recently bought a 2001 Cherokee 4dr. When I bought it, the power windows all worked. Now today the drivers side window no longer works but the other three all work from the same driver side switch and their own base switch. Any suggestion on where to start?
Drivers door wire harness and tailgate wire harness issues are very common. Visually inspect and test for chafed wire insulation, damaged wires, or failed wire splices. Check wire continuity with your $6-15 volts/ohms multi-meter. Apply 12 volts directly to the window regulator motor to see if the motor works. The drivers door master switch is also a problem item.

I agree with the above. I had to "replace" the harness that went to the door. I cut and soldered all new wires in, then wrapped them in tape, then wire loom. All the wires were cut/worn. No problems since!
So today I jump in the jeep and the window now works and I have DONE NOTHING to fix it. I guess this means I have a short somewhere??? You say most shorts are in the harness near the door jams or near the switch?
I also have a 2001 Cherokee 4dr with the same issue. I have tested the motor with and without the window assembly attached. Motor and assembly seem to work. (I was testing off the battery and don't have long enough wires to test installed though.) I also hooked up my multimeter to several spots in the wiring harness and switch.
The two connectors on the switch for the driver's window going to the harness have continuity with the ground connector of the switch and each other until pressed. The blue and white(??) wires have continuity between the connectors at the switch and motor. I also get 12V across the connectors where the harness plugs into the motor when utilizing the switch. However, the motor does not work when using the switch.
Now the weird part, there seems to be no continuity between the two connectors on the harness where it plugs into the window motor. If the two connectors have continuity at the switch, they should have it at the other end of the harness, especially if I am getting the 12V when using the switch.
My conclusion is that there must be a short or connection somewhere as I am reading the correct voltage, but not getting any power it seems to the motor. Is there more to the harness between the switch and motor besides straight wires? I was at a stopping point for the day so I figured I would ask before I started cutting into the harness at random places.
The thread links to this video for a demonstration on the fix:
I looked at my switch and the solder points were looking bad for both the window lock switch and the driver's window switch. Resoldered all the points and now everything is working as it should be. Thankfully I can hold looking at the wiring harness till the future.
