Ok yesterday i was driving to work and my check engine light came on. then today i was driving to work and i got on the highway and i notice that i was going 65 at 3000 rpm and it wasnt going into 4th gear. I cant remeber what code came up. Does anyone have a clue about whats going on.

Post the exact Check Engine Light (CEL) code. The CEL points you in the direction of the problem.

Yup. Gotta use the technology provided to you by your Jeep.

Post the exact code(s) here for comment.

OBD (check engine light and codes) does a good job at pointing you in the right direction. Everything else is just a guess.

Did you adjust your NSS when you installed it? May or not be related, but they do need to be adjusted.

Post the EXACT remaining codes for comments. You will get the most accurate replies when the exact code number is provided.

FWIW, I had a similar issue with my '98. I was checking my fuses trying to solve another issue. Next thing I knew, engine light came on, no backup lights, and no overdrive!

After doing some digging, I found out I needed a 15amp fuse in slot #10 in my fuse panel. My owner's manual shows #10 open. When I saw the fuse in slot #10 I thought I put one back in the wrong place so I tossed it!

I couldn't find ANY mention anywhere that showed I needed a fuse in slot #10. When I put the fuse back in...everything worked! Two days later, the engine light went out. All is back to normal.

i went and looked and my slot #10 and its blown. i would go fix it tonight but nothing is open and i only have the bigger fuses laying around so i hope this fixes it i will let you know. It seems like problem is happening to a lot off xjs. but it is the hardest thing to get a awnser for.

Here is a link to some (not all) of the fuses/relays on the 97-01 XJ.
