1999 Cherokee vs a 2000 Cherokee

Hi. I'm new here and I am trying to understand some differences between the 1999 and 2000 model years. I know that the autotransmission was made to shift smoother in 2000. How? Is it a different Transmission or the same manufacturer? Also the 4.0 inline is the one used in the "more refined" Grand Cherokee of that year. I always thought that they were exactly the same. Are they? It is more efficient and runs smoother and quiter. How? Would the 1999 model be just as reliable? Also I've heard a "NEW" fivespeed was added that gave crisper shifts. Again, How? All this information was found on the net but no details were given. Was wondering if any of you people could shed some light on these matters. Also, what does the Grizzly package include? Any other changes between the 1999 and 2000-01 models would greatly be appreciated. I am looking at a 1999 and a 2001 and am trying to decide.

I have a 1999 XJ and my girlfriend has a nearly identical 2000 XJ... The only things I have noticed being different is the "distrobutor-less" ignition in the 2000 and my 1999 is quieter at all speeds and idle (even with hers being stock, and mine now having a FIPK)...

I'm sure the distributorless ignition has a lot to do with it (that started in 00) and I have heard that they made the engine block stronger.

Another big difference between the 99 and 00 models is 99 was the last year they used HP30 axles. 00 and 01 have low pinion D30's which are identical to the axles in the TJs.

I've had the 01 parked for a week or so tell I could get plates for it and I was in the 98 and it's not as loud and shifts smoother than the 01. maybe it's the lift. but I slaped the stickers on and took it to the bank and the 98 is smoother and isn't asloud. Kinda strange.
