1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo V8 5.2 AWD Over heating while Idle

Hi, My 96 Laredo V8 5.2 150k is over heating while idle. I'v checked all the hoses ,no leaks from the water pump and the fan seems to be working fine. I'v changed the thermostat on it but when I started the Jeep up and waited for the temp to rise so I could make sure the stat worked properly the temp gauge dramatically dropped back to 100 from 210. I turned the Jeep off, when I tried to start it again it wouldnt turn over. I actually had to take the thermostat out for the Jeep to turn over again. Any idea's on what could be the issue. Im at a loss and I really love my Jeep. Im running it at the moment without a thermostat and its still over heating. I need to sit idle for long amounts of times in my Mobile Jeep Office for work so this is no good and I would like to keep the crazy mechanic fee's out of this. "ANY" help would be great.
Thanks

I'm not sure why the jeep wouldn't turn over with the thermostat. Have you checked to see if the water pump is pumping. If it is try to examine your engine block and see if the head gasket may be leaking

-you're in the wrong forum, but there are other considerations such as water pump impeller being worn to nothing, a plugged up radiator, faulty temperature sensor. I'm sure the Grand Cherokee forum can give you more specifics - we're all about the 4.oL here.

you need to stop driving your vehicle overheating like that. Mobile office or not, if you crack the block, warp the head, or blow a head gasket you will become a static location with a serious repair ahead of you.
